Cello Teaching

I am a member of the music faculty at Brandeis University where I have taught many cello students since 2002. One of the joys of teaching cello at a great liberal arts university is the diversity of students who come into my studio, both in background and academic interests. I have had students of all abilities and majoring in many different fields, frequently double majoring in music and another field. I am beginning a  list of alumni who have worked with me and where they are now; you can find them on my Alumni / Student Links page. Although I'm not taking any regular private students outside of Brandeis at this time, I'm happy to offer an outside student an occasional lesson as an evaluation or second opinion, and for prospective applicants to Brandeis I of course am happy to meet with you (after all, you should see if a potential cello teacher is right for you). I have a blog called Gordonka focusing on cello playing, musicianship, technique, repertory, and ensemble playing which will be a location for various ideas of mine. Other resources will be posted right here on this page.

I am grateful to have been invited to give cello master classes and orchestra sectional coachings in this area for students at Boston University's School of Music, New England Conservatory's Preparatory Division, the Neighborhood Strings Program in Worcester, and at the Apple Hill Center For Chamber Music.
